Overview
In this first jewellery design blog, for the summer of 2015, I want to talk about the versatile wonder that is Magnesite. In its natural form, Magnesite resembles white Howlite or marble; as it has an attractive matrix of veins running through it. It takes dye very easily; so can be dyed and shaped into some very bright, summery, user-friendly beads. See above photo for some Magnesite stretchy bracelets I've made for my Nylissa Silver and Bollywood Nights at Nylissa collections. These were made using Magnesite plus beading elastic, small 925 silver clasps and 925 silver headpins from my regular supplier, JewelleryMaker (TV channel Sky665). The quatrefoil bead is from a supplier in China.Magnesite has done a lot to brighten up my jewellery display stand, ready for the summer of 2015 (see above photo). The colours compete well with the turquoise necklace and the coral colour shell pearl necklace on the right-hand side.
In the above picture I have shown how wearable magnesite is with colourful tie dye fabrics. It will also go well with light or dark denim blue, or white or black. Rainbow Goths will love bracelets like this one. It has the perfect colour combination for summer, because yellow evokes the sand and the bright turquoise evokes the colour of a tropical sea. These are also the kind of colours used on beach huts in English seaside resorts. Pull up a deckchair, I have more to reveal about this amazing gemstone.
Metaphysical Properties of Magnesite
Magnesite is reputed to open the Third Eye Chakra; promoting deeper self-awareness, eliminating self-deception and helping to develop psychic abilities, if worn against the forehead just between the eyebrows, during meditation. It is also said to increase understanding and unconditional love in close relationships.
All kinds of health benefits have also been attributed to Magnesite, including the speeding up of fat metabolism, relieving sensitive skin, relief of headaches and migraines; and even helping with bone and teeth disorders.
The various colours of dye applied to Magnesite will not affect the healing properties in any way.
